This a surprisingly compelling option. Elves in the Dwarf Fortress universe are immortal (in the unaging sense), so as long as I play it smart I'm in for a good long run. And it is quite possible for individual elves in the Dwarf Fortress universe to excel. Usually by leaving their original elf culture and joining a human or dwarven one. Google up Cacame Awemedinade sometime for the epic tale of an elf who became king of a Dwarven civilization after they conquered his home town. |

As an Elf in the Dwarf Fortress universe, I intend to avoid dwarf fortresses like the plague. Especially ones that look like they're being run by a player. :) |

While no doubt a horrifying experience, I think I can ditch a backpack quickly enough that it won't have dragged me too deep to get back to the surface. Especially if I've got some forewarning that this is about to happen, which the "be thrown" part kind of hints that I do. |
